New York Methodist Hospital is the first hospital in Brooklyn to offer a minimally invasive treatment option for bladder cancer patients, adding to NYM’s growing repertoire of robotic surgical procedures. Ivan Colon, M.D., attending surgeon, Division of Urology at NYM, performs the surgery.

As a participant in Park Slope’s annual Seventh Heaven Street Fair, New York Methodist Hospital will sponsor free blood pressure, glucose, podiatry and dental screenings with valuable health information such as sleep risk assessment, and a blood drive. With physical activity and nutrition identified as a health priority in New York Methodist Hospital’s (NYM) Community Service Plan, the Hospital recently partnered with Councilman Brad Lander to produce Teen Battle Chef, a program created with the goal of reshaping teens' approach to food and nutrition, while teaching them culinary skills.

On April 26th, the New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) board of trustees, Hospital administration, staff and friends gathered with hundreds of NYM volunteers for the Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony celebrated the contribution of NYM’s 1,232 volunteers, a number breaking the previous year’s record. All told, those volunteers gave almost 100,000 hours of their time to NYM in 2011, and over 40,000 of those hours were spent in direct contact with patients.

New York Methodist Hospital has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR), making it one of only two hospitals in Brooklyn to receive this prestigious honor. ACR Center of Excellence accreditation is considered the gold seal for imaging procedures, and confirms that women receiving their mammograms and breast sonograms at NYM’s Department of Radiology are being treated with the highest level of care.

New York Methodist Hospital (NYM) now offers a comprehensive Lung Cancer Screening Program for the screening and diagnosis of lung cancer. The program features a multidisciplinary care team of pulmonologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, thoracic surgeons, and radiologists who collaborate to diagnose lung cancer. This approach streamlines the diagnostic process, and helps maximize the chance of a good outcome.
