On April 25, the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences awarded NewYork-Presbyterian’s Health Matters an Emmy in the category of Human Interest: Program Feature/Segment. An eight-week course of treatment with the daily oral drug glecaprevir/pibrentasvir cured chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in 98% of previously untreated patients with an asymptomatic form of cirrhosis or liver scarring known as compensated cirrhosis, according to the results of an international phase 3b clinical trial led by Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian. The simplified drug regimen may contribute to global efforts to eliminate hepatitis C infection.

Dr. Vivian J. Bea, an expert in breast cancer disparities, has been named section chief of breast surgical oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. She also serves as an assistant professor of surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine.

Dr. Bo Shen, an internationally renowned innovator in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), has been named section head and medical director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center in the Division of Digestive and Liver Diseases at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and professor of medicine (in surgery) and vice chair for innovation in Medicine and Surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) has recognized NewYork-Presbyterian Queens and NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center as two of 88 ACS NSQIP participating hospitals that have achieved meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2018.

Dr. Tan A. Ince has been named chief of pathology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, effective February 1. Dr. Ince was also recruited to Weill Cornell Medicine as a professor of pathology and laboratory medicine.
