Columbia University Medical Center, NewYork-Presbyterian and the Life Raft Group (LRG), a patient advocacy organization specializing in GIST cancer, announced today that they have entered into a collaborative research project to investigate the efficacy of a novel system biology approach for identifying the best treatment options for patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST).

Hudson Valley Hospital Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital have established a new relationship aimed at increasing access to state-of-the-art care for residents of the Hudson Valley and Westchester County. Scalp cooling can lessen some chemotherapy-induced hair loss – one of the most devastating hallmarks of cancer – in certain breast cancer patients, according to a new multicenter study from UC San Francisco, Weill Cornell Medicine, NewYork-Presbyterian and three other medical centers.

NewYork-Presbyterian, in collaboration with Columbia University Medical Center, has received a grant of $4.5 million over five years from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to participate in the newly launched Accountable Health Communities (AHC) Model, an innovative program designed to test various approaches to integrating medical care and community services. The goal of the AHC Model is to improve health outcomes and reduce the total cost of care among Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.

One out of every four children admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) for critical illness develops delirium, according to an international study led by Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian investigators. The researchers also found the prevalence of delirium nearly doubles after five days of hospitalization in a pediatric ICU, underscoring the need for routine monitoring of delirium with children.
