At the Haywood Burns Middle School (I.S. 176), in upper Manhattan, higher-achieving seventh and eighth graders who are interested in the sciences meet monthly over pizza with pediatric residents and medical students, under the supervision of an adolescent medicine physician, to discuss various science/medical topics of interest to the students. Topics have included cancer, smoking, asthma, how the eye works, robotic surgery, and the brain. The academic year culminates with a field trip to NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.
