Our Programs

NYP’s Foundation Relations team partners with foundations who share our mission of improving patient care, promoting health equity, and providing innovative medical and behavioral health programming to the communities we serve. Foundation gifts make many of the programs provided through our Division of Community and Population Health possible. We collaborate with local, regional, and national foundations to ensure healthier lives for our patients and for all New Yorkers.

Learn More About the Impact of Foundation Partnerships at NYP

NYP partners with foundations to design and scale community-based programs that address local health needs, from education and prevention to integrated care. These collaborations enable sustainable solutions that improve outcomes for patients and families across the communities we serve.

Eugene M. Lang Foundation

Driven by our mutual commitment to delivering health education, improving the college and career prospects of underserved youth, and diversifying the medical professional pipeline, NYP and the Eugene M. Lang Foundation partnered in 2003 to create the Lang Youth Medical Program. This one-of-a-kind health sciences enrichment and college prep initiative delivers a six-year, longitudinal “mini-medical school” curriculum for 7th through 12th grade students from Washington Heights and Inwood.

The Lang Youth Medical Program helps participants cultivate an interest in science and healthcare; instills a sense of personal commitment to community service; and ensures college readiness and success. In addition to the founding endowment and subsequent gifts from the Eugene M. Lang Foundation, the program is funded entirely through philanthropic support to this day.

Turn 2 Foundation

In the late 90s and early 2000s, NYP noticed an alarmingly high rate of referrals from local elementary schools to the pediatric children’s psychiatric emergency room. In partnership with Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation and the schools, we created Turn 2 Us, a school-based mental health promotion and prevention program that aims to promote mental health and academic success in at-risk children.

The program empowers the entire school community including students, parents/caregivers, and school staff, to engage in healthy lifestyle practices that promote well-being by enhancing their mental health literacy. Thanks to the ongoing support of the Turn 2 Foundation and other foundation donors, we are able to provide comprehensive mental health promotion services to hundreds of students each year.

Mother and Child Integrated Mental Health Program (MAC-IMP)

Recognizing that a child’s chances for long-term health and well-being are shaped even before they are born, NYP received support from the Robin Hood Foundation to expand our Mother and Child Integrated Mental Health Program (MAC-IMP). This comprehensive initiative integrates mental health services into routine prenatal and early childhood medical visits so that children and families have the best possible start in life.

We take a “two generation” approach to healthcare for mothers and babies, providing holistic care and screening so that patients’ medical, emotional, and social needs are assessed and met during a uniquely vulnerable and impactful time. The support of the Robin Hood Foundation has allowed us to both enhance our capacity at existing MAC-IMP sites in Northern Manhattan and to expand it to new patient populations on the East Side and Brooklyn.
