In the Department of Neonatology at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, our neonatologists, neonatal nurses, pediatricians, and neonatology fellows provide exceptional care to infants in our Well Baby and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurseries.

An Onsite Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

While most of the 2,200 babies delivered each year at Allen Hospital stay with their mothers in the hospital's Well Baby Nursery, we care for premature infants and those with respiratory distress, jaundice, blood sugar problems, and other difficulties in our more advanced NICU Nursery. In the NICU, our attending neonatologists and neonatology fellows are present 24 hours a day, ensuring that high-risk newborns receive the specialty care that they need. If your baby needs care beyond our NICU, we will transfer him or her to the NICU at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital.

Specialized Care for Newborns

In addition to routine neonatal care, we offer developmentally appropriate care of growing premature infants; physical and occupational therapy; a breastfeeding room and lactation support service; nasal CPAP for oxygen delivery; short-term mechanical ventilation; tube or oral feeding; and phototherapy (light therapy) to treat babies with jaundice.

Family-Centered Care

We promote family-centered care whenever possible. We encourage breastfeeding and "rooming in", a practice where newborns stay in the same room as their parents. For security, the area features a state-of-the-art wireless alarm system, where an alarm will sound if a newborn is carried beyond certain limits. Once discharged, your baby is followed by the pediatrician of your choice. We can also refer you to a pediatrician in one of NewYork-Presbyterian's Ambulatory Care Network Clinics.

Our Physicians

Neonatologists at Allen Hospital also serve on the staff of NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center, one of the country's major medical centers. In addition, each of our physicians is a member of the highly regarded ColumbiaDoctors faculty practice. This means you can experience the level of exceptional care expected from NewYork-Presbyterian in a personal and accessible environment.
