Robotic Surgery
On faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine, our fellowship-trained urologists treat the entire spectrum of urologic diseases, including disorders of the male and female urinary tract and the male reproductive organs. The more than 15,000 patients we care for each year are of all ages and include both children and adults. We perform over 2,000 urologic surgeries annually. The breadth of urologic problems we address include:
- Cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testis, and ureter
- Urinary stone disease involving the kidney, ureter and bladder
- Benign prostate enlargement (BPH) causing problems with urination
- Urinary problems specific to women, including leakage of urine
- Female pelvic organ prolapse and pelvic reconstructive surgery
- Male sexual medicine and erectile dysfunction (ED)
- Male infertility
- Pediatric urologic problems
Advanced surgery
Currently, nearly all urological cancer surgery and reconstructive surgery can be performed using robotic surgery. Robotic surgery is a specialized form of laparoscopic, minimally-invasive surgery. This advanced technology allows our surgeons to perform complex operations through just a few small incisions. The System features a magnified, 3D high-definition visualization system and tiny, wristed instruments that bend and rotate with greater precision and dexterity than the human hand.
As a result, robotic surgery enables your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision and control. Robotic surgery minimizes postoperative pain, significantly shortens recovery and allows for a quicker return to normal activities.
All our urologists at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens perform robotic surgery, including:
- Robotic prostatectomy for prostate cancer and benign prostate enlargement
- Robotic partial nephrectomy for kidney tumors
- Robotic cystectomy with urinary diversion for bladder cancer
- Robotic sacrocolpopexy for female pelvic organ prolapse
- Robotic reconstructive procedures including pyeloplasty and ureteral reimplantation
