Learn more about our services below.

Inpatient rehabilitation services

Inpatient services are typically recommended by a provider. These services may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.

Physical therapy
If recommended by your provider, during your hospital stay, our physical therapy team can provide services to help you regain your strength and mobility following treatment or a surgical procedure. Your physical therapist will work closely with other care team members, including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and case managers, to ensure you are on track toward reaching your goals.

As you prepare for your discharge home from the hospital, your physical therapist will recommend if any changes should be made in your home so it is easy and safe for you to move around. They may also recommend equipment to aid in safe mobility. If needed, your physical therapist may recommend that you transition to a rehabilitation facility as you regain your mobility.

Occupational therapy services
OTs are crucial in acute care by facilitating early mobilization, performing therapeutic interventions, and creating safe discharge plans. OTs also assist in addressing barriers that affect a person’s physical and psychosocial needs to increase independence with daily activities, such as self-care, chores, and other meaningful occupations.

Following an evaluation, the OT will create a plan of care for future visits if needed. At the time of discharge to home, the OT will assist in addressing your concerns and needs in performing daily activities independently.

Speech language pathology services
Speech language pathology provides assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders. At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, our certified speech language pathologists work as part of a collaborative team of specialists to improve each patient’s speech, language, and swallowing function. Services are available for infants, children, and adults. Speech language pathologists work with each patient to create a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan.

Neurological rehabilitation

As the only major hospital system offering neurological rehabilitation in Queens, we provide care for people with neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases, spinal cord injuries, stroke, traumatic brain injuries, tracheostomy/ventilator dependence, balance and coordination disorders, and more. Our services include:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Speech pathology
  • Swallowing therapy
Regenerative therapies

Regenerative medicine is an innovative treatment approach that harnesses the body's own ability to heal damaged tissue. At NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, our physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians are experts in the injection of regenerative treatments to relieve pain and speed the healing of tendon, ligament, muscle, and joint injuries and conditions.

Types of regenerative therapies:

  • Prolotherapy
This non-biologic treatment stimulates the healing of tendon and ligament injuries and mild degenerative conditions.

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
PRP uses concentrated platelets from your blood that can release growth factors to the area of injury, further stimulating healing of the injured tissue or joint.

  • Stem cell injections
Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) involves harvesting bone marrow, which contains mesenchymal stem cells, from the patient. We introduce this concentrated solution into a damaged joint or tissue to promote healing and some regeneration of damaged tissue or cartilage.
