NEW YORK

Mindy S. Miller, a development professional with over 25 years of experience at leading New York institutions and companies, has been named Director of the Capital Campaign at Weill Cornell Medical College. The Campaign, which is titled "Advancing the Clinical Mission," aims to raise $750-million to enhance the clinical, education, and research programs of the Medical College.

When the Capital Campaign was launched, earlier this year, $332 million was pledged toward the goal, including a total of $150 million in new gifts from Sanford I. and Joan Weill, and Maurice and Corinne Greenberg. To date, $383.1 million has been pledged. The Campaign seeks to raise the total of $750 million by December 2006.

The Weill Cornell Medical College Capital Campaign comprises several key components, including new and enhanced clinical programs, recruitment of new faculty, endowment funds for students and faculty, infrastructure upgrades, and renovated facilities.

"We are fortunate to have a proven professional like Mindy Miller to guide our Campaign from this point forward," said Kevin Brine, Chairman of the "Advancing the Clinical Mission" Capital Campaign. "Her efforts will make possible investments and improvements that will benefit an incalculable number of patients."

Larry Schafer, Vice Provost of Development for Weill Cornell Medical College, added, "We enthusiastically welcome Mindy Miller to the Medical College and look forward to working closely with her in her important work and benefiting from her extensive knowledge."

As Director of the Campaign, Ms. Miller reports directly to Larry Schafer. She will coordinate her fundraising activities with the Board of Overseers; the Campaign Chairman, Mr. Kevin Brine; the Dean of the College, Dr. Antonio Gotto, Jr.; the faculty; the planning and finance offices; and Clyde B. Jones, Director of Development, and development staff. Among her responsibilities will be developing the fundraising strategy for the campaign, generating opportunities for donors to receive proper recognition, creating campaign brochures and other printed materials, as well as managing the process to keep the Campaign on track.

"Advancing the Clinical Mission" is the second of three phases of Weill Cornell's Capital Campaign. Phase One, the Strategic Plan for Research, successfully completed in 1999, raised $316-million toward advancing the Medical College's research mission.

Mindy Miller

Ms. Miller, who holds a B.A. in history from American University and an M.B.A. in marketing from New York University, has built an impressive record as a development specialist for non-profit institutions since 1986—a record that followed 10 years of experience in consumer product marketing at for-profit firms like Shulton, Inc., and American Home Products Corp.

Most recently, from July 2001 until joining Weill Cornell, she was Director of Development for the newly established Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, providing strategic direction for its fundraising efforts. Prior to this, Ms. Miller worked for three years at NYU Medical Center. During her tenure, she rose to the position of Director of Development for NYU Hospitals and oversaw fundraising for its $200-million capital campaign.

While concentrating on medical institutions for the past several years, Ms. Miller has experience in the cultural non-profit sector as well, working at the New York Zoological Society (now Wildlife Conservation Society), The New York Botanical Garden, and the Central Park Conservancy, where she successfully led its $70-million capital campaign. Ms. Miller's managerial experience is well rounded and extensive, and will be most helpful in her new position.
