Helping raise a family, tending to patients, and running a marathon all at once is no small feat. Yet Dr. Ricky Singh does all three masterfully as captain of Team NYP in the 2025 TCS NYC Marathon.
Experienced in the 26.2-mile adventure that is the TCS New York City Marathon, Dr. Ricky Singh is approaching this run with renewed vigor and refined strategies. “Training for and running the marathon deepened my empathy for the physical and mental resilience required in recovery,” he offers. “It reinforced the importance of setting goals.” Working with patients and preparing for the run has deepened his belief that “every journey starts with one step at a time,” and now Dr. Singh has opted to focus more on adapting the marathon to his robust schedule.
“This time around, I’ve really worked on spending the time non-running,” he says. Both in the hospital and on various runs, Dr. Singh has noticed that continually stressing certain body parts can lead to health challenges, bringing this awareness to both his care and his training. “Overuse occurs from doing the same thing too much,” he mentions. “Just like life, it requires prioritization and planning. You can’t cram for a marathon—you have to prepare.”
Although he’s a longtime member of Team NYP, this year marks the first time Dr. Singh will be the team leader, proudly helping guide a cohort of runners supporting the institution. “Team NYP is more than a group. We are a family, and we support one another and share a common mission: delivering exceptional care.” The runners of Team NYP raise support for the Hospital and inspire our community.

“Philanthropy fuels innovation,” says Dr. Singh. “It allows us to explore bold ideas, accelerate clinical trials, and bring cutting-edge therapies to patients faster. It’s the bridge between vision and impact.” Since our founding, NewYork-Presbyterian has defined and redefined the boundaries of what is possible in medicine. Community support ensures we can take the steps necessary to offer leading-edge, accessible, affordable care for all—regardless of background or income.
An esteemed physician specializing in physical medicine, rehabilitation, and more, Dr. Singh is very optimistic about the future of the field. “The integration of technology and personalized medicine in rehabilitation is incredibly exciting. From wearable diagnostics to AI-driven treatment plans, we’re entering an era where care can be more precise, proactive, and patient-centered than ever before.”
Running the marathon, much like working with patients, reinforces the importance of togetherness for Dr. Singh. “Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. Community support—whether from family, friends, or care teams—provides the emotional and psychological foundation that empowers patients to stay motivated and hopeful throughout their recovery.”
