Steven H. Silber, MS, DO, MHCM, has been named Regional Executive Medical Director of the NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Brooklyn. In his new role, Dr. Silber will be responsible for physician recruitment and retention, strategic growth, quality and access, and clinical integration with the large number of community-based physicians in Brooklyn.

“Dr. Silber joined NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital three decades ago as an emergency medicine physician and rose through the ranks to become the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer,” said David Alge, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Physician Services, at NewYork-Presbyterian. “I cannot think of a better or more knowledgeable person to take on this key role to ensure that the people of Brooklyn continue to receive the highest caliber of care.”

Using his experience in management and quality, Dr. Silber will collaborate closely with the Regional Executive Medical Directors of the NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Groups of Queens and Westchester to enhance access to high-quality care in all the communities they serve.

Most recently, Dr. Silber served as Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, and Chief Quality Officer at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine.

As Chief Medical Officer, he was responsible for medical staff affairs, oversight of clinical departmental activities, hospital clinical program development, clinical program integration with the NewYork-Presbyterian enterprise, and oversight of graduate medical education.

As Chief Quality Officer, he was responsible for the coordination, oversight, and implementation of clinical quality and safety activities, including those related to state and federal regulatory agencies, as well as those prioritized by NewYork-Presbyterian.

Dr. Silber joined the medical staff at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in 1987 as an emergency medicine physician, and became the Vice Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine in 1992. He subsequently joined the administrative team in 2004 as the Medical Director for Quality Management and became the Vice President for Medical Affairs in 2005.

Dr. Silber received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1977, a master’s degree from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1978, a medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1982, and a master’s degree in Health Care Management from Harvard University in 2005.
