Cell Therapy

Advanced therapies from world-class experts

Cell therapies are powerful treatments that harness immune cells to fight cancer within the body. These innovative treatments can involve using stem cells  or a patient’s engineered T-lymphocytes (T cells) to target and destroy cancer.  At NewYork-Presbyterian, our specialists use cutting-edge technology to collect, modify, and infuse immune cells for potentially lifesaving results.

Types of cell therapy treatments

NewYork-Presbyterian offers several forms of cellular immunotherapy treatments, including:

  • Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy, or CAR T-cell therapy. CAR T cell therapy is used to treat pediatric and adult patients with blood cancers that came back or keep growing despite chemotherapy. Multiple CAR T-cell therapies have been approved by the FDA.
  • The tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy. TIL therapy includes lifileucel, which is FDA-approved for inoperable or metastatic melanoma that keeps growing after other immunotherapies.
  • Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (or bone marrow transplant/BMT) replaces diseased or damaged bone marrow with healthy blood-forming stem cells, using a patient’s own cells or donor cells. It is used to treat leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, bone marrow failure syndromes, and certain inherited blood disorders.

Treatment recommendations depend on the specific diagnosis, stage of disease, prior therapies, and overall health. Our multidisciplinary teams carefully evaluate each patient to determine whether a stem cell transplant, CAR T-cell therapy, or another cell therapy approach is appropriate .
