Dr. Parul J. Shukla named Surgeon of the Quarter

pas2026.jpgParul J. Shukla, MD, was recently recognized as Surgeon of the Quarter at New-York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He received the award through a popular vote from the staff of the third floor of the Greenberg wing of the hospital, where a majority of OR space at NYP/Weill Cornell is located.

Dr. Shukla is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and Associate Attending Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Shukla is also the medical director of the 8 North wing at the hospital.

As a member of the Section of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dr. Shukla focuses on the treatment of colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal disorders, often through minimally invasive techniques including laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic means. Dr. Shukla's research interests include the luminal mapping of colon tumors, better classification and substaging of stage IV colorectal tumors, and the application of new techniques such as narrow-band imaging, carbon dioxide colonoscopy, and "needlescopic" procedures in colorectal surgery.

Prior to his work at Weill Cornell Medicine and NYP, Dr. Shukla has worked and studied in the United Kingdom, Australia, and India. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), and both the Association of Surgeons and the Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons in India.
