Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi Receives Greenberg Foundation Award

Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, M.D, F.A.C.S. is the recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Service award from the Maurice R. Greenberg Foundation. This award honors a senior member of the medical faculty at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell for their exceptional and longstanding service.

Dr. Michelassi is the Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Surgery and Chairman of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and Surgeon-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Michelassi's wide-ranging expertise in surgical treatment of Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and both pancreatic and colorectal cancers is evident in his prolific body of work, encompassing over 330 academic publications, as well as his wide range of professional society leadership roles and awards, and repeated acknowledgements in New York Magazine and US News and World Report top doctor lists. Dr. Michelassi is Associate Editor of the Annuals of Surgical Oncology and serves on the editorial board of numerous medical journals including: The Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Surgery, The British Journal of Surgery, Annals of Surgery, Digestive Surgery, Inflammatory Bowel DiseasesNature Clinical Practice Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the World Journal of Surgery. Dr. Michelassi is also known for the bowel-sparing technique for patients with Crohn's disease he developed, known today as the Michelassi strictureplasty.
