Welcome from Dr. Peterson and Dr. Fenton

We are delighted that you are considering a residency in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Our teaching hospital is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, a world-class academic medical center committed to excellence in patient care, research, education, and community service. We are academically affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College, which provides our residents with mentorship and training from Weill Cornell Medicine faculty and the opportunity to teach medical students from Weill Cornell.

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist is located in Park Slope, one of Brooklyn’s most vibrant and beautiful neighborhoods. Our hospital has 651 beds and sees over 40,000 annual admissions and 500,000 outpatient visits per year. Our patient population reflects the immense diversity Brooklyn has to offer, where 45% of Brooklynites speak a language other than English at home and 38% were born in another country. Brooklyn has also been home to a wide range of ethnic, religious, and cultural communities for generations. Our unique and diverse patient population gives our residents the opportunity to manage a broad range of diseases while serving the social, cultural, and linguistic needs of the community.

In addition to the program director, our team of experts who lead the residency program includes a deputy program director, three associate program directors, and over 30 core faculty members across all specialties, who teach, mentor, and serve the needs of our residents. Our hospital also has several fellowship training programs in the internal medicine specialties of cardiology, pulmonary & critical care medicine, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, and geriatrics. Our residents work closely with fellows, attendings and program leadership of our in-house fellowship programs who can provide mentorship for career planning and scholarly activity.

Our residents enjoy living in Brooklyn and caring for our diverse patient population. Many of our residents choose to stay and complete their fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, and an increasing number of graduating residents join the attending staff after completing their residency or fellowship training here.

We are thrilled to invite you to apply for a residency in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Our training program will provide you with a breadth of clinical experience that will prepare you for practice in any setting.
