Pioneering Precision Medicine in Ophthalmology

At the forefront of eye care, the Department of Ophthalmology at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia is leading the way in precision medicine for all types of ocular diseases and conditions. With retinal degenerative diseases affecting over 10 million Americans, the need to provide more personalized diagnostics and patient care has never been greater.

Nearly a decade ago, the department introduced the concept of Precision Ophthalmology™, which includes advanced techniques that leverage a patient’s own genetic profile to tailor treatment. By combining discovery science with gene therapies, novel surgical techniques, access to clinical trials, and more, the team is helping to treat the most complex cases, preserve vision, and improve patients’ quality of life.
