A Wide Array of Services to Meet Students' Healthcare Needs
NewYork-Presbyterian's School-Based Health Centers offer the following services:
Medical/Health Services
- Comprehensive physicals
- Confidential reproductive health care, including contraception, pregnancy testing, and STI screening and treatment
- Work/sports physicals
- First aid
- Immunizations
- Management of chronic and acute illness
- Trauma response
- Stress management
- Laboratory tests
- Dental sealant program (some sites)
- Vision screening, with on-site distribution of eyeglasses
- Referrals for specialty services
- Outreach and referral for enrollment into insurance programs
- Nutrition Counseling
Mental Health Services
- Individual, group, and family counseling
- Case management
- On-site psychiatric evaluation and management
- Referral to other mental health resources
- Crisis intervention
- Referral to entitlement services, legal assistance, daycare, and other needed services
Health Education & Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program
Our school-based health center staff members provide health education interventions designed to promote healthy relationships, develop decision-making skills, delay the onset of sexual activity, and reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections. Interventions include:
- Curriculum-based classroom education for middle school and high school students
- Classroom, group, and individual health education
- School-wide health observances, health fairs, and outreach events
- Collaborative projects with community-based organizations
- Parent and teacher education workshops and presentations
- Intensive education, counseling, and follow-up of sexually active and at-risk teens
- STI and HIV prevention, education, and counseling
