Free Events and Support Groups Sponsored by New York Methodist Hospital

New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Breastfeeding Support Group for new mothers. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital's Wesley House, Rooms 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. The New York Methodist Hospital Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both a physician and a chaplain lead the group. This time of year can be especially hard when you are missing a loved one. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Bereavement Support Group. This month the Bereavement Support Group will meet on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Buckley 8 Conference Room, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. For people who have lost premature or newborn infants, NYM will also offer a Perinatal Bereavement Support Group which will meet later that evening from 8:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. on September 1. A licensed clinical social worker facilitates the group. The meetings will take place in the Buckley 8 Conference Room, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. Give the gift of life at New York Methodist Hospital's September Blood Drive! The Blood Drive will take place on Monday, September 19, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All donors will receive free lunch in the Hospital's cafeteria, a donor gift, refreshments and the opportunity to win a variety of raffle prizes. Obesity is an epidemic that impacts over nine million Americans. More and more people who are affected by obesity are seeking information about surgical weight reduction. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. This month the group will meet on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about the surgery. A 90-minute support group meeting, open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session.
