Ophelia Byers, RN, MSN, has been named vice president and chief nursing officer at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, effective September 9, 2019. Ms. Byers joins NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital from NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital where she served as a director of nursing.

As director of nursing, Ms. Byers oversaw maternal child health, perioperative services, a medical-surgical unit and inpatient dialysis. In addition, Ms. Byers was responsible for the development and growth of the nursing professional governance program. She joined NewYork-Presbyterian as an obstetrics patient safety nurse at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2012 and soon after became a patient care director at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital.

Ms. Byers earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Rutgers University-Camden and her Master of Science in the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program from Stony Brook University. Ms. Byers also spent eight years as a chemical operations specialist in the United States Army Reserves where she was awarded the Army Medal of Achievement for soldiering skills. She serves as a board member of Kids Creative, a non-profit organization in New York City.
