NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has earned accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), recognizing the hospital's commitment to providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary breast care to patients across Brooklyn and surrounding communities. All eligible NewYork-Presbyterian locations have now received this prestigious accreditation.

The NAPBC accreditation, a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), is awarded to breast centers that demonstrate compliance with rigorous standards encompassing the full continuum of breast care, including breast cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, survivorship, and ongoing quality improvement. To achieve accreditation, programs undergo a detailed evaluation and demonstrate sustained compliance with national standards designed to improve patient outcomes and provide coordinated, patient-centered care.

This is the first time NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has received NAPBC accreditation, reflecting the continued growth and advancement of its breast cancer program and commitment to delivering high-quality care close to home.

"A breast cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming for patients and their families, and they deserve the confidence that comes from knowing they have an experienced team guiding them every step of the way," said Dr. Vivian Bea, section chief of breast surgical oncology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and assistant professor of surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. "This accreditation recognizes our commitment to providing personalized, evidence-based care and comprehensive support to our patients from screening and diagnosis through treatment and survivorship."

By setting high standards, NAPBC accreditation guides breast centers in providing comprehensive breast care based on scientific evidence.

"At NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, we are committed to delivering and expanding access to exceptional cancer care to the communities we serve,” said Juan Mejia, president of NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. "This recognition is a testament to the expertise of our care teams and the high standards they uphold every day.”

NewYork-Presbyterian is committed to clinical excellence and advancing cancer care. The healthcare system’s breast program offers patients access to coordinated care from specialists across surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, breast imaging, pathology, genetic counseling, survivorship services, and supportive care programs.
