NewYork-Presbyterian Names Daniel Barchi New Chief Information Officer

NewYork-Presbyterian has appointed Daniel Barchi, a renowned expert in the use of technology in health care delivery, as its new chief information officer, effective December 1. He succeeds current CIO Aurelia Boyer, who is retiring.

“At NewYork-Presbyterian, we are constantly implementing the latest technology to improve provider communication, patient engagement and enhance overall care,” said Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian. “Mr. Barchi’s expertise in this field is second to none. We’re very excited to announce him as our new information chief.”

As chief information officer, Mr. Barchi will oversee the development and implementation of technology across the continuum of care. Of particular note, he will lead the roll out of NewYork-Presbyterian’s new telehealth program, which is set to launch in 2016. The telehealth program will allow patients to remotely connect with NewYork-Presbyterian doctors for video consults and second opinions, and providers will be able to easily share information with their colleagues and monitor high-risk patients remotely.

NewYork-Presbyterian has consistently garnered recognition for its innovative uses of technology in patient care. In 2014, the organization was named No. 6 on InformationWeek’s Elite 100 list of top business technology innovators in the U.S. thanks in large part to its groundbreaking bedside tablet program, which allows patients to seamlessly communicate with their care team and quickly access health information. In addition, NewYork-Presbyterian maintains a dedicated innovation center which aims to create products and processes that improve efficiency and quality.

Prior to joining NewYork-Presbyterian, Mr. Barchi served as senior vice president and chief information officer at Yale New Haven Health System and Yale School of Medicine. He led a number of important initiatives, including the implementation of an electronic medical record across three hospitals and the roll out of a secure iPhone application for physician communication. He also served as senior vice president and chief information officer for Carilion Health System in Roanoke, Virginia, where managed operations and technology for the eight-hospital academic medical center.
