NewYork-Presbyterian was recognized on the InformationWeek Elite 100, marking NewYork-Presbyterian’s fourth time ranking on the list of top business technology innovators in the U.S.

NewYork-Presbyterian was recognized for its IntelliBridge Enterprise (IBE), which provides a single, standard-point of interoperability between a patient monitoring system, the Hospital admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) feed and electronic medical record (EMR). Every hospital bed is equipped with a bedside monitor that provides clinical staff an expanded, real-time view of a patient’s vital signs. IBE allows waveforms and vitals from those bedside monitors to be seamlessly interfaced with the hospital’s EMR.

By implementing this electronic bridge between the two systems, the Hospital has reduced the complexity and costs associated with different patient care systems and while helping clinicians achieve workflow efficiency and minimize data input errors.

“This initiative is a prime example of NewYork-Presbyterian’s ability to create a technology solution that optimizes the staff and patient experience and highlights both our resourcefulness and creativity,” said Dr. Steven Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian.

“While EMRs can be incredibly useful in terms of storing patient data, they often face compatibility issues when used in concert,” said Daniel Barchi, chief information officer at NewYork-Presbyterian. “IBE allows us to seamlessly integrate vital signs and other critical data into our EMR, giving our providers a very clear view of a patient’s health.”

NewYork-Presbyterian is one of the first large-scale hospitals to seamlessly integrate patient vital signs electronically into the electronic medical record. The IBE initiative is not only innovative because of the underlying technology itself, but also because of the approach to designing a sustainable solution. NewYork-Presbyterian’s IT Department collaborated with clinicians to leverage existing resources to provide relevant clinical data in a timely and reliable manner.

The IBE initiative creates a unique opportunity for NewYork-Presbyterian to reduce rising costs, achieve workflow efficiencies and deliver better patient care by leveraging existing investments made in the technology systems. By working closely with vendor partners and the clinician community, the Hospital has been able to design an innovative solution that can easily support and scale across multiple sites and diverse patient populations.
