NewYork-Presbyterian Celebrates 2,000 Liver Transplants

The Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian recently celebrated its 2,000th transplant with a ceremony at Pier 59 at Chelsea Piers. Leadership from NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine were on hand to pay tribute to the many physicians, donors and recipients touched by the program. The program also stressed the importance of organ donation, featuring a young recipient and living donor. Dr. Tomoaki Kato, the surgical director of the program, emceed the event, which featured remarks from:
- Dr. Jean Emond, chief of transplantation services;
- Penelope Lee, liver transplant recipient;
- Andria Castellanos, group senior vice president and chief operating officer, NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center;
- Dr. Silvia Hafliger, transplant psychiatrist;
- Natalie Benavides, director of hospital services, LiveOnNY;
- Dr. Steven Lobritto, medical director of pediatric liver transplantation; and
- Dr. Robert Brown, medical director of the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian
