Free Events and Support Groups Sponsored by New York Methodist Hospital
New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Breastfeeding Support Group for new mothers. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital''s Wesley House, Rooms 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. The New York Methodist Hospital Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Both a physician and a chaplain lead the group. New York Methodist Hospital is partnering with BP3D (Brooklyn Partnership to Drive Down Diabetes) to offer a free six-week diabetes self-management workshop to help give individuals living with diabetes the skills and knowledge to manage the disease. Topics will include monitoring your blood glucose levels, dealing with common symptoms, and new and innovative ways to cope. The workshops will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. starting July 12, 2011 in NYM''s Buckley Pavilion, 6th floor, 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. Obesity is an epidemic that impacts over nine million Americans. More and more people who are affected by obesity are seeking information about surgical weight reduction. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. This month the group will meet on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday, July 28, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about the surgery. A 90-minute support group meeting, open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session.
