February Calendar ItemsIn conjunction with the National Give Kids a Smile Day, New York Methodist Hospital''s Division of Dental Medicine will provide free dental screenings for children ages six to sixteen on Friday, February 2, 2007, from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The screenings will take place in the Hospital''s Kirkwood Pavilion, first floor, at 506 Sixth Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. Registration is not necessary and walk-ins are welcome. This examination does not replace a routine comprehensive dental exam. The Division of Dental Medicine at New York Methodist Hospital is co-sponsoring the program with the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Second District Dental Society, a local chapter of the New York State Dental Association. The day of free screenings is part of an ADA initiative to provide access to oral health care to underserved children nationwide. As part of National Wear Red Day for Women, New York Methodist Hospital will host, "Go Red for Women", a health fair featuring blood pressure screenings and information from healthcare professionals to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of women in the United States. The event will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2006, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Medical Pavilion, 263 Seventh Avenue, between Fifth and Sixth Streets. Jane Dorlester, L.C.S.W., an experienced group facilitator and professional in the field of grief counseling, will lead a free Bereavement Workshop on Wednesday, February 14, 2007, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at New York Methodist Hospital. The meeting will offer those in mourning a comforting environment in which to share thoughts and feelings with fellow participants who have also experienced a loss. The session will provide participants with the opportunity to organize their feelings and explore new ways to cope with their grief. The workshop is sponsored by New York Methodist Hospital and Caring Hospice Services of New York. Registration is required. New York Methodist Hospital and the S.L.E Lupus Foundation will host a Lupus Support Group on Wednesday, February 15, 2007 at 7 p.m. The free event will take place in the Hospital''s Medical Pavilion, Spine and Arthritis Center, Room 2B, 263 Seventh Avenue, between Fifth and Sixth Streets in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Event attendees will learn how lupus affects the body, what treatment options are available and share experiences with others living with the disease, which affects more than two million people in the United States. Friends and family of lupus patients are welcome.
