Dr. Herbert Pardes Named to Markle Foundation Board of Directors

Dr. Herbert Pardes, President and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, has been elected to a three-year term, effective immediately, on the Board of Directors of the Markle Foundation. With the foundation, Dr. Pardes has been Executive Vice Chair of the Markle Foundation's Connecting for Health Steering Group.
Dr. Pardes' election was announced with those of John Gage, Chief Researcher and Director of the Science Office for Sun Microsystems, and Peter A. Nadosy, Advisory Director at Morgan Stanley, to the Markle board.

Dr. Herbert Pardes, President and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, served as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and U.S. Assistant Surgeon General during the Carter and Reagan Administrations (1978-84). He has also served as President of the American Psychiatric Association (1989). Dr. Pardes left NIMH in 1984 to become Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University's College of Physicians Surgeons and in 1989 was also appointed Vice President for Health Sciences for Columbia University and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the College of Physicians Surgeons. Dr. Pardes received his medical degree from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn) in 1960. He received his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from Rutgers University in 1956.
