Nov 28, 2012
For a limited time, New York Methodist Hospital is offering free lung cancer screenings for current or former smokers (having quit within the past 15 years) between the ages of 55 to 74, with a smoking history of at least 30 pack-years, who have no prior history of lung cancer. A screening at NYM begins with a thorough evaluation by a program physician, followed by a low-dose, computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest, which provides detailed images of the patient's lungs. Recent studies have shown that screening with low-dose spiral CT scans, compared to chest X-ray, reduces lung cancer deaths among older heavy smokers by 20 percent. If you think you qualify for a free lung cancer screening, get more information or make an appointment, by calling (718) 780-LUNG (5864).
