The 19th Annual Health Care’s Most Wired® survey, released by the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Health Forum and published annually by Health & Hospital Networks (H&HN), has recognized NewYork-Presbyterian as one of the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals of 2017.

“NewYork-Presbyterian is continually working to expand our digital presence and reach more patients looking for high-quality and convenient care,” said Daniel Barchi, senior vice president and chief information officer of NewYork-Presbyterian. “We are pleased to be recognized for our innovation and advances in technology to deliver NewYork-Presbyterian’s superb care through new avenues.”

The survey measures information technology (IT) use and adoption among hospitals nationwide to enhance the patient experience, focusing on infrastructure; business and administrative management; quality and safety; and clinical integration.

In 2016, NewYork-Presbyterian launched its award-winning telehealth service NYP OnDemand, a comprehensive suite of digital health services designed to improve and expand patient care, and to extend physician collaboration. The suite includes online Second Opinion, Adult Virtual Urgent Care and Virtual Visits. The services allow patients or parents of patients to quickly and easily communicate with doctors from ColumbiaDoctors and Weill Cornell Medicine confidentially and securely from a mobile phone, tablet or computer.

HealthCare's Most Wired Winner 2017

“We are committed to bringing NewYork-Presbyterian’s world-class care to patients through NYP OnDemand, where patients and address their health concerns faster and take better control of their health at the touch of a button,” said Dr. Peter Fleischut, senior vice president and chief transformation officer at NewYork-Presbyterian. “Providing services like this is a priority for our institution and required collaboration across all divisions. This recognition is a testament to that effort and the services we provide.”

According to results of the latest survey, technology is making it easier for patients and providers to interact, improving communication, safety and relationships between the patient and provider. New tools, like NYP OnDemand, are helping patients become more actively involved in their care and maintain their health.

“The Most Wired hospitals are using every available technology option to create more ways to reach their patients in order to provide access to care,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “They are transforming care delivery, investing in new delivery models in order to improve quality, provide access and control costs.”

HealthCare’s Most Wired® survey was conducted between January 15 and March 15, 2017. The 2017 Most Wired® survey and benchmarking study is a leading industry barometer measuring IT use and adoption among hospitals nationwide. The survey of 698 participants, representing an estimated 2,158 hospitals – more than 39 percent of all hospitals in the U.S. – examines how organizations are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based health care in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management; quality and safety; and clinical integration.

Detailed results of the survey and study can be found in the July issue of H&HN.
