NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital

Anesthesiology Residency Program

General Information

The Department of Anesthesiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital provides comprehensive clinical anesthesia services using state-of-the-art technology. Working closely with surgeons, obstetricians, and other physicians, the anesthesiologists administer anesthetics for a wide variety of medical and surgical procedures. This includes anesthesia care for surgery in the Operating Room, as well as for procedures done outside of the Operating Room such as ECT, endoscopy, cardioversion, radiology and cardiology procedures.

The Obstetric Anesthesia Service provides analgesia for labor, and anesthesia for cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures. The service also manages post-partum pain in conjunction with the acute pain service. A dedicated obstetric anesthesia service operates twenty-four hours a day to ensure continuous coverage and immediate availability.

The Pain Management Center offers comprehensive outpatient pain evaluation, diagnosis and therapy. Therapeutic modalities available to the pain specialists include nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulators, intrathecal pumps, radiofrequency ablation and lysis of epidural adhesions.

As an active academic department, we have an extensive lecture schedule, and maintain a variety of clinical research projects. We offer an accredited residency program in Anesthesiology. We are also a clinical campus for medical students and for the nurse anesthesia students from Columbia university and University of Medicine & Dentistry in NJ. The academic faculty members are all board certified or board eligible.

The small size of our residency program promotes a friendly and collegial atmosphere among the residents, faculty and staff. Our residents can expect to get a disproportionately large exposure to regional anesthesia and obstetric anesthesia, and are closely mentored in both clinical education and research.
