Questions and answers:

What is the timeline for demolition and construction?

Demolition is now complete. The excavation phase will begin in June 2025, and the construction of the new building is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.

Why is NewYork-Presbyterian developing this new facility?

Feedback from our patients and clinical teams has pointed toward the need for a modernized space where we can deliver cancer care and other clinical services on our NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus. We wanted our physical space to match the level of high-quality care we provide.

Who is the construction management firm?

Consigli Construction is performing the demolition of the existing building (Eye Institute), excavation, and installing foundations for the new building. Turner Construction Company was selected to build the structure.

What are the construction site hours of operation?

Regular work hours are 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. There may be situations where these hours will be adjusted for specific tasks consistent with NYC Department of Buildings requirements.

How will you manage increased traffic conditions during and after construction?

As with any construction project, we will work closely with the community, our construction manager, and the city to minimize traffic disruptions. With the cooperation of the NYPD, NewYork-Presbyterian has secured two NYPD traffic officers to assist at the corner of Fort Washington and West 165th Street Monday through Friday from 7 am to 7 pm. We are also taking measures with our construction teams to minimize the impact of our work on the surrounding area.

How will NewYork-Presbyterian minimize disruption and ensure cleanliness and safety during construction?

We are committed to timely, transparent communication throughout our construction efforts. NewYork-Presbyterian will work closely with the construction manager to ensure a safe and compliant site that strictly follows construction site management best practices. We will also regularly update Community Board 12 and other local leaders on our progress. We will be consistently focused on noise and dust mitigation, site logistics and crane locations, and preventing vehicle idling.

Who can I contact if I have more questions about this construction?

We want to hear from our community as this project progresses. NewYork-Presbyterian is engaged in an ongoing dialogue with our community leaders and elected officials. For questions about the project, please email [email protected] or call 646-317-2767 to leave us a message, and we will provide a response. Your email or message can be in English or Spanish.
