Hospitalist Service (Inpatient Care)
The Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital includes hospitalists. These physicians care for inpatients at Allen Hospital (those who are admitted to stay overnight) whose personal physicians either do not have admitting privileges to the hospital or who prefer to practice only in the outpatient setting. Hospitalists are specially trained to manage the often complex care of hospitalized patients on a daily basis by:
- Meeting with family members
- Following up on tests
- Answering nurses' questions
- Communicating with patients' personal physicians
- Addressing any treatment issues that may arise
