Lourdes M. Dominguez, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University, and Director of Psychiatry at the Allen Hospital of New York Presbyterian Hospital. Her areas of expertise include the diagnosis, pharmacologic treatment and psychotherapy of Mood Disorders, with a special focus on cross-cultural psychiatry. Dr. Dominguez graduated cum laude from Barnard College of Columbia University in 1982 with a major in psychology and received her M.D. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in 1986. She completed her residency in Psychiatry at the Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute program, serving as chief resident in Psychiatry in 1990.
She has served in a number of leadership roles within the Department of Psychiatry since then including Director of the Psychiatric Emergency Department CPEP EOB, Director of the NYPH Tavares Clinic, Director of the Adult Psychiatry Community Services Clinic, Medical Director of Quality Assurance, ultimately directing the NYPH Allen Psychiatry Service.
Dr. Dominguez teaches attendings, fellows, residents, medical students at Columbia University. Dr. Dominguez is a committed clinician and administrator, serving on a number of committees influential in the delivery of quality care. She serves on the CU/NYSPI Psychiatric Residency Selection Committee. She was also the Allen Hospital physician leader for Schwartz Rounds, a National program designed to improve interdisciplinary dialogue, increasing insight into social and emotional aspects of patient care, increased readiness to respond to patients' and families' needs.
She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, where she has served on numerous committees and presented at the yearly conference. She also continues to serve as an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is the recipient of many awards including the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (1996); the New York State Psychiatric Institute Alumni award (2007), the NYPH Physician of the Year Award (2012), and the APA Irma Bland Award for Excellence in Teaching Residents (2014). She has a private practice in Manhattan, focusing on psychotherapy and psychopharmacological treatment.
