NYS regulation requires that we notify you that there is certain risk of paying for medical services with a credit card, including:
- Medical bills paid by credit card are no longer considered medical debt.
- By paying with a credit card, you are forgoing federal and state protections around medical debt.
- Protections that you must acknowledge forgoing include: Prohibitions against wage garnishment and property liens
- Prohibitions against reporting medical debt to credit bureaus
- Limitations on interest rates
- By paying with a credit card, you are affirmatively acknowledging that you are forgoing the above protections.
