Clinical Services

Multidisciplinary, Seamless Care

At the Monahan Center, we care for patients with gastrointestinal cancer and their families with cutting-edge medical care and with compassion. We provide you with the latest and most promising treatment options and support services coordinated under one roof. Often, facing a diagnosis of cancer means running from place to place for tests and treatments. At the Monahan Center, our team provides an integrated approach to care, working together to eliminate this burden and to make a difficult experience easier.

Screening & Prevention

At the Monahan Center, our team helps guide you and your family in knowing your risk factors for disease, reducing your risk where possible, and determining when you need to begin screening. In the case of colorectal cancer, for example, regular screening allows our highly skilled gastroenterologists to detect any abnormal tissue in your colon or rectum early, often preventing colorectal cancer from occurring altogether. This is because screening allows the detection and removal of non-cancerous growths ( called polyps ) that can sometimes turn into colorectal cancer-stopping potential cancer before it ever develops.

In addition, our clinical, nutrition, and genetic counseling staff can help you to determine the diet, exercise, lifestyle, and screening strategies that reduce your risk of developing colorectal or other gastrointestinal cancer most effectively.

Education & Outreach

When Jay Monahan was diagnosed with colon cancer, he and his family spent a great deal of energy tracking down and evaluating treatment options. The Monahan Center's education center serves to provide the latest information on prevention, screening, treatment, support, and wellness regarding gastrointestinal cancers. Our educational services are available for you and your family, for other health professionals, and for all those who wish to stay informed about their gastrointestinal health and wellness. For those interested in clinical trials, our education center provides information on clinical trials here at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College and clinical trials around the United States.

In addition, our Monahan Center team works with other key professional and advocacy organizations to help individuals who are at high risk or who do not have adequate health insurance to find screening services in their communities.
