Pediatric Spine Clinic

A child’s anatomy is unique. We bring together a comprehensive care team, lead by orthopedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons, to ensure children receive high-quality care designed with them in mind. Our pediatric spine specialists are specially trained in treating a full range of spinal conditions affecting children. As one of the few comprehensive pediatric spinal programs in the country, we’re on the forefront of research and innovation into surgical and non-surgical treatment options for children and adolescents. Our ColumbiaDoctors faculty physicians specializing in orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, and physiatry work with you and your child to find the most effective treatment plan.

Our Approach to Pediatric Spine Conditions

Because of the complexities involved in pediatric spine procedures, our pediatric spine surgeries are done at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital — one of the nation’s top pediatric facilities. Working with experts in pediatric pulmonary medicine, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric endocrinology, and many others we are able to offer children comprehensive, coordinated care in a single building. For children with early-onset scoliosis, we offer MAGEC™ (MAGnetic Expansion Control) — a specialized procedure that allows children to have their spines aligned without repeated surgeries to adjust implanted growing rods. We also offer casting, bracing, vertical expandable prosthetic titanium rib (VEPTR), growing rods, and spinal stapling for young people with scoliosis. Our care team also includes certified Child Life specialists, who are specifically trained to guide children and their families through the complexities of surgery and on-going clinical care.
