Physical Medicine

The physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians (physiatrists) at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens assess and treat people with acute and chronic physical disabilities. Physiatrists improve patients' quality of life by incorporating exercise-based rehabilitation and pain management into the nonsurgical treatment of a variety of injuries and disorders—such as neck and back pain, shoulder pain, and spinal cord injuries. We take a team approach to coordinating the care of each of our patients, with the shared goal of restoring function.

Our physical medicine and rehabilitation experts specialize in helping people suffering from chronic pain who have not responded well to previous treatments. We optimize each patient's function using one or more of the following therapies:

  • Physical therapy and therapeutic exercise
  • Medications
  • Training on how to modify movement and activities
  • Adaptive equipment and assistive devices, such as a walker
  • Orthotics and prostheses
  • Injection therapies

We also offer electrodiagnostic studies (such as electromyography and nerve conduction studies) to accurately diagnose physical disorders.
