Biography

A native of Canada, Ashley Brissette MD MSc FRCSC, attended McGill University (Great Distinction) as an undergraduate and received her medical degree and ophthalmology residency from the prestigious Queen’s University in Canada. Her dedication to research then lead her to pursue a masters degree in Biomedical Sciences with a subspecialty in Medical Education concurrently during her residency training. She then completed an advanced fellowship program in cornea, cataract & laser vision correction surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. Dr. Brissette has received many professional awards and research grants including the Millennial Eye Research Grant Award, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation Excellence Award, the Ontario Medical Association Achievement Award and the Physicians Services Incorporated Research Award Grant. 

In addition to her above accolades, Dr. Brissette is an active and accomplished researcher and lecturer. She has been invited to present both nationally and internationally at conferences and hospitals around the world. Of note, her research in Dry Eye Disease was featured at the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Conference in France and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in Los Angeles. She has contributed extensively to the ophthalmic literature, authoring numerous peer-reviewed papers, textbook chapters, original articles, and scientific presentations. Her research in corneal transplantation has helped to establish a national cornea donor registry in Canada. She is one of the premier researchers at Weill Cornell Ophthalmology.

Dr. Brissette is also an exceptional educator. Her master’s degree included a focus on medical education and she plays an integral role to resident and fellow education at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Brissette currently serves as the director of the cornea and external disease resident education seminars at Weill Cornell Medicine. Her passion for education is also evident in her involvement in numerous medical missions around the world. She has performed pediatric, cataract, and cornea surgery with such renowned organizations as ORBIS and the Teaching Eye Surgery Foundation. She has travelled to many countries including Peru, Vietnam, Northern Canada and Mauritius to teach eye surgery to local ophthalmologists. She is dedicated to fighting blindness, and has helped others to build the skills needed to deliver quality eye care across the world. 

Dr. Brissette is a board certified fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, International Society of Refractive Surgeons and the American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons among many other professional associations. She is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine and her practice interests include laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK), advanced corneal surgery (DMEK, DSAEK and other corneal transplantation), advanced cataract surgery with premium IOL's (accommodating, multifocal, extended depth of focus, astigmatism correction) as well as dry eye and general ophthalmology.
