Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery

Smaller Incisions, Faster Recovery

After fully evaluating your child, our treatment team will decide if surgery is necessary, and if so, will map out the best approach. Today, we perform many urologic surgeries using minimally invasive techniques to do the surgery through just a few very small incisions, rather than one large incision. We insert several slender instruments into your child's abdomen through incisions that are generally less than one centimeter in size. Your child benefits from:

  • Less pain after surgery
  • Less blood loss
  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Smaller scars
  • An earlier return to school and sports
  • Reduced chance of infection

During robotic surgery, the procedure we perform inside your child's body is identical to what we would do with traditional laparoscopy. However, the surgeon sits comfortably at a special console and manipulates the surgical instruments from there, with the robotic arms precisely replicating the surgeon's hand and finger movements. The robotic system is an advanced tool for the surgeon that provides enhanced three-dimensional magnification of the inside of your child's body while ensuring stability and precision of the surgical instruments. Robotic surgery offers your child the same benefits as laparoscopy.
