NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell ACN PFAC

The Ambulatory Care Network Patient-Family Advisory Council (PFAC) at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center is a group of patients, families, caregivers, hospital staff, and faculty who work together on issues related to patient and family-centered care.

Advisory Council Initiatives and Outreach

The Ambulatory Care Network PFAC at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell began in 2012.  It examines ways to make the patient experience more satisfying and successful.  This includes reviewing the effectiveness of operational procedures as they apply to the clinics where our members are patients and, in the hospital, at large.

The Council has initiated projects we consider to be educational and empowering for patients. These projects include instructional DVDs: one on occupational therapy (Tips for Independence) and another offering help in meditation techniques (Mindfulness and Yoga).  These DVDs will be shown on TV monitors in waiting rooms, particularly in the Integrated Health Center.  Both instructional DVDs will be made available to patients upon request.

Our Council successfully proposed signage for the Helmsley Medical Tower elevators and lobby to help patients find their way.  The patient wrist ID band currently in use in the clinics also came out of the Council’s work.

Meetings

Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Weill Cornell Campus.

Become a part of the PFAC

Our Council strives to represent the diverse community and patient population the Hospital serves.  We encourage patients and families who support them to become a part of the PFAC.

Prospective members should be:

  • Current or former patients or family members.
  • Committed to regularly attending meetings.
  • Willing to work collaboratively with Hospital liaisons, faculty and staff.
  • Focused on providing meaningful feedback from a patient/family perspective.
  • Able to represent the collective voice of patients and families rather than the individual’s perspective.

PFAC members are Hospital Volunteers and are required to adhere to the NYP Volunteer policies and procedures.
