Jun 22, 2009

NEW YORK

A ribbon-cutting ceremony today officially opens the newly dedicated Con Edison Fast Track Suite at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/The Allen Pavilion. Made possible through a $100,000 gift from Con Edison, the Fast Track Suite is designed to improve and speed emergency care for patients with urgent yet uncomplicated medical problems.

"We are grateful to Con Edison for their commitment to the community. The Fast Track Suite will help ensure access to effective and timely emergency care, seven days a week, 365 days a year," says Dr. Herbert Pardes, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

"Developed to address the increasing numbers of emergency patients, our Fast Track facilitates emergency care for patients with noncritical medical problems," says Dr. James Giglio, director of emergency medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/The Allen Pavilion and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, and associate clinical professor of medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. "As an example, someone with a cut requiring stitches would be cared for in the Fast Track. Someone having a heart attack would not."

The Fast Track Suite at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/The Allen Pavilion opened in 2005 and consists of exam rooms, doctor's offices and a waiting area.

"The Fast Track Suite is a great innovation in patient care, and Con Edison is proud to be associated with it," says Lou Rana, president and COO of Con Edison.
