Perelman Heart Institute Launches HeartSmarts: A Faith-Based Initiative in African-American/Hispanic Communities across NYC

May 15 Graduation Ceremony for the First Class of Faith-Based Ambassadors of Health

WHAT:

The Ronald O. Perelman Heart Institute at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center is hosting a graduation ceremony for its first class of Faith-Based Ambassadors of Health. After participating in a 12-week training course this group of pastors and ministers from churches and ministries in Brooklyn, Queens, Harlem and Staten Island are now prepared to educate their congregations about reducing the risk factors for heart disease.

18 Graduating Faith-Based Ambassadors including women like 71-year-old Norma Wesley who leads the Soul’s Temple Wellness Ministry at First Baptist Church of Corona in East Elmhurst Queens. After suffering from a stroke and struggling with diabetes, Norma was eager to get healthy. Since joining the program she has lost 51lbs and is eager to help others in her community get heart healthy.
