2018 PLATINUM RECOGNITION HRSA Workplace Recognition

NewYork-Presbyterian, an international leader in transplantation, was among a select group of hospitals nationwide recognized for working to promote enrollment in state organ donor registries through the 2018 National Hospital Organ Donation Campaign. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the campaign has added more than 443,000 donor enrollments to state registries nationwide since its inception in 2011. More than 1,200 hospitals across the country participated in the 2018 campaign, a nine percent increase over last year’s campaign participation.

This campaign is a special effort of HRSA’s Workplace Partnership for Life to mobilize the nation’s hospitals to increase the number of people in the country registered as organ, eye and tissue donors. Participants in the campaign included small and rural hospitals, transplant centers and large health care systems, including NewYork-Presbyterian.

Working with donor organizations and state hospital associations, the hospitals conducted education, registration and awareness activities in their facilities and communities between October 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018. During this time, they collectively added nearly 23,700 donor registrations to state registries and the Puerto Rico registry, which includes registrations from the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Hospitals earned points for each activity implemented and were awarded platinum, gold, silver or bronze recognition by HRSA. In New York State, 28 hospitals received platinum recognition, 15 received gold, 19 received silver and seven received bronze. Six of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s seven academic medical campuses were recognized as well as all the regional hospitals within the NewYork-Presbyterian Regional Hospital Network.
