NewYork-Presbyterian has launched NYP Ventures, a strategic investment fund that supports innovative digital healthcare companies. The newly established NYP Ventures leverages NewYork-Presbyterian’s world-class healthcare expertise to make strategic investments in companies offering innovative solutions in the healthcare space.

The fund recently made its first investment in Avizia, a leader in telehealth hardware and software solutions.

“In this rapidly evolving environment, we are constantly seeking opportunities to harness innovation to improve the patient experience,” said Dr. Steven J. Corwin, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian. “With NYP Ventures and this investment, we are strategically positioning ourselves to help shape the future of healthcare.”

“We are thrilled to be working with NewYork-Presbyterian,” said Avizia CEO and co-founder Mike Baird. “They share Avizia’s vision to enable any patient to connect to any provider in any place. NewYork-Presbyterian is a world-class institution, and this new relationship will help Avizia bring innovative solutions to market that will transform patient care.”

In recent years, NewYork-Presbyterian has focused on implementing advanced technologies and digital services to enhance the delivery of healthcare. In 2014, the hospital launched the NYP Innovation Center to implement innovative, technology-driven solutions for both clinicians and patients across NewYork-Presbyterian’s hospitals and clinics. This summer, the NYP Innovation Center launched NYP OnDemand, a comprehensive digital health suite that allows patients from across the country to connect with NewYork-Presbyterian experts via online services such as second opinions, digital urgent care consults and virtual follow-up appointments. To date, NYP OnDemand services have reduced wait times and provided faster care across nine hospitals in the New York metro area.

The success of the Innovation Center drove NewYork-Presbyterian to create NYP Ventures to continue to identify strategic investments. As NewYork-Presbyterian continues to expand its digital health offerings, it plans to work with Avizia and other companies to roll out innovative services for patients. NYP Ventures and the NYP Innovation Center are currently located in New York City, with plans to open a second office in Silicon Valley this winter.
