NEW YORK

The medical documentary "NY Med," produced by ABC News and filmed primarily at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, was one of five television programs honored May 23 at the 64th annual Christopher Awards.

The Christopher Awards are presented to writers, producers, directors and illustrators whose work affirms the highest values of the human spirit. "The creative forces behind the projects we're honoring are improving our culture by telling stories that awaken hope instead of despair, acknowledge the necessity of sacrifice in the service of a greater good, and light a candle rather than curse the darkness," said Tony Rossi, director of communications for The Christophers, the nonprofit organization that presents the awards.

The seven-part "NY Med" series, from executive producer Terence Wrong, chronicled dramatic and inspirational patient stories at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital told from the point of view of the doctors, staff and patients of the hospital. The critically acclaimed show aired in summer 2012.

"'NY Med' demonstrated NewYork-Presbyterian's unwavering commitment to our patients," said Dr. Steven J. Corwin, CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. "This award truly belongs to our doctors, nurses, and staff, who provide outstanding and compassionate care to our patients and their families every day. ABC News did a tremendous job giving a national audience unique insight into the depth and breadth of academic medicine, the cutting-edge medical care we provide, and most importantly, our culture of caring and compassion. We are honored that 'NY Med' and NewYork-Presbyterian have been recognized in this way."
