The Sickle Cell Transplant Program at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital participates in multiple clinical trials aimed at improving disease outcomes. Currently our institution is using a low-intensity conditioning regimen in patients receiving a sibling bone marrow transplant to decrease long-term side effects. We are also participating in a nationally funded multicenter clinical trial aimed at improving the success of bone marrow transplantation from an unrelated donor by reducing the intensity of the conditioning regimen.
Other research initiatives focus on quality of life of patients after bone marrow transplantation and fertility preservation in those undergoing a bone marrow transplant. For more information about current clinical trials, call Elana Smilow, CPNP, at 212-305-8443 or Ria Hawks, CPNP, at 212-305-5593.
