The neurology and neurosurgery specialists at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital provide a range of services for people with diseases and disorders of the nervous system. From comprehensive spine procedures and brain surgery to emergency stroke care and state-of-the-art video monitoring for epilepsy, our physicians have the experience and compassion to provide advanced neurologic care right here in Westchester County.
A Superior Team
Our neurologists and neurosurgeons collaborate with neuro-endocrinologists, neuro-radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, nurses, pathologists, and other specialists to ensure you receive the most effective care. We also collaborate closely with our neurology and neurosurgery colleagues at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City.
An Award-Winning Stroke Care
As a New York State Department of Health-designated Stroke Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence has a highly skilled and dedicated stroke team ready 24/7 to immediately assess and treat anyone who comes through our doors experiencing symptoms of a stroke. Such a rapid response is key for treating stroke and enhances the chance of a successful outcome. To qualify as a Stroke Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence developed new protocols and sharpened its stroke response times. In addition to treatment with clot-busting medication, our team offers “endovascular” procedures to remove blood clots and restore blood flow in the brain.
Our stroke program also received the American Heart and American Stroke Associations' Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke GOLD PLUS Quality Achievement Award and Target: Stroke™ Honor Roll. The award recognizes our commitment and success that ensures people suffering from a stroke receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized guidelines, based on the latest scientific evidence.
An Accurate Diagnosis
The best care begins with an accurate diagnosis. At NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence, our team performs spinal taps and is known for our exceptional neuro-imaging, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) scanning, and electromyography (EMG), which is used to diagnose neuromuscular disorders. We are also one of the few hospitals in our region offering 24-hour video electroencephalography (EEG) to diagnose and monitor epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
Inpatient Neurologic Care
Our neurologists offer a full range of inpatient services for diseases such as stroke, neuromuscular disorders (including myasthenia gravis crises and Guillain-Barre syndrome), paraneoplastic syndromes, inflammatory vasculitis, and other disorders requiring in-hospital care. We consult with our collaborators at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia on complex cases and the care of patients with multiple medical problems, often communicating through “teleneurology” so physicians there can see our patients in real-time and work with us to make an accurate assessment.
Extensive Epilepsy Monitoring Services
Adults, including pregnant women, and children who experience seizures and patients with memory, mood, or sleep disorders, can undergo extensive monitoring as inpatients in the Critical Care Unit at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence.
In collaboration with ColumbiaDoctors, the Epilepsy Monitoring Program uses state-of-the-art 24-hour video equipment to record electrical activity in the brain. The technology allows our doctors to observe changes in a patient’s neurological condition in as it is happening and correlate behavioral changes with brain activity. This advanced approach helps our doctors make a faster diagnosis and more precisely classify the type of epilepsy, enabling them to customize therapy for each person with seizures.
Care of Pituitary Tumors and Other Brain Tumors
Our neurosurgeons have expertise treating a variety of brain tumors, including gliomas and meningiomas, and use minimally invasive surgery to remove them whenever appropriate. Our Pituitary Tumor Program is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary service designed to care for adult and pediatric patients with tumors of the pituitary gland and pituitary region. Working in conjunction with doctors in our state-of-the-art Cancer Center, we offer a full complement of pituitary treatments, including surgery (often performed through the nose, with no external skin incisions), medication to shrink the tumor and relieve symptoms, and radiation therapy when indicated.
Comprehensive Spine Surgery
We understand how disabling spine pain can be and offer a wide range of spinal surgeries to relieve your discomfort when nonsurgical treatments are not sufficient. Our neurosurgeons perform the latest procedures to treat degenerative conditions (such as herniated disks), spinal stenosis, vertebral fractures, spinal cord tumors, and cancer that has spread (metastasized) to the spine. Our spine surgeons perform these procedures using the least invasive approach possible, operating through small incisions whenever appropriate so you can recover comfortably and quickly and return to the activities you enjoy sooner.
Our colleagues in the ColumbiaDoctors Orthopedics program at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital, also provide expert surgical spine care. When appropriate, we will work together to determine who best should care for a patient with spinal surgery needs. To find a doctor, visit lawrencedoctors.nyp.org or call 914-787-5000.

Diagnostic testing is available, including nerve conduction studies, electromyography (EMG, measuring electrical activity in muscle tissue), and electroencephalography (EEG, measuring electrical activity in the brain). People who need intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) can receive it in our modern and comfortable infusion center. We treat our patients with warmth and empathy, taking time to understand how their diseases affect their lives and providing holistic, compassionate care.
