Application Process

We accept four (4) Residents to each class.

We start accepting applications in January and do so on a rolling basis until the end of March/First week April for the class which begins during the same calendar year.

Admission Criteria

The following are the requirements for applying to our Residency Program:

  • EM PA Residency Initial Application
  • Degree from an accredited physician assistant program
  • Current NCCPA certification (by start of residency)
  • New York State license
  • Three letters of recommendation (one must be from PA program director)
  • GPA of 3.5 or better in PA school
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal interview
  • Personal statement
  • ACLS, PALS, and BLS certification prior to starting (ATLS optional)
  • PA school transcripts
  • Application fee of $40 (payable to NYP-WC Dept. of Emergency Medicine)

Applicants will then be selected to join us for an interview day with guided tours of our facilities and ample opportunities to greet the staff and ask questions. Interviews typically take place over May and June, with a goal of informing the incoming class of our final decisions by July.

New EMPA residents matriculate in November (beginning with conference and Orientation week) and Graduation will occur at the completion of the 14-month training (typically the first week in January).
