NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital

Pastoral Care Program

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital has been an ACPE accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training center since 1960 and has operated a CPE residency program since 1972. With the hospital’s history as the first Methodist hospital in the country, chaplains have been long well integrated into the hospital and the surrounding Park Slope community. CPE residents participate in all aspects of departmental and institutional life at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist, as well as having opportunities to learn together with other CPE programs across NYP. As a Level II Trauma Center, our residents develop particular expertise in crisis and emergency spiritual care. Brooklyn is home to a tremendous range of communities and cultures, making NYP Brooklyn Methodist a richly diverse and enormously vital setting for learning and practicing spiritual care. Here residents will encounter birth, death, and the vast range of living in-between, as the hospital reflects the profound complexities, the joys and sorrows, challenges and resources, of human experience.
