The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital provides high-quality care for adults with a wide range of respiratory illnesses, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, and sleep disorders. Our pulmonologists provide care in our outpatient offices at Allen Hospital and at ColumbiaDoctors Riverdale. We also perform inpatient pulmonary consultations and care for patients with critical illnesses in Allen Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.
Our diagnostic services include complete pulmonary function testing, state-of-the-art imaging, thoracic ultrasound, and bronchoscopy. Patients who need interventional pulmonary procedures and lung surgery receive this care in conjunction with Milstein Hospital's interventional pulmonologists and the Thoracic Surgery Service. Our pulmonologists also evaluate patients requiring assessment for lung transplantation and lung volume reduction surgery.

Our pulmonologists treat patients with lung disorders such as asthma, emphysema, lung cancer, pleural effusions (fluid in the lungs), pneumonia, and COPD.

Our board-certified doctors provide round-the-clock specialty care to patients in northern Manhattan, Riverdale, Yonkers, and the west Bronx.
The Full Range of Pulmonary Function Testing
In the Pulmonary Diagnostic Unit, we offer pulmonary function testing and arterial blood gas measurement for adult inpatients and outpatients. Testing includes spirometry (with and without bronchodilator), lung volume testing (by plethysmography and nitrogen washout), lung diffusing capacity, pulse oximetry, and pre-operative and postoperative evaluations. An attending pulmonary physician interprets all studies, and results are available to referring physicians. The Unit follows American Thoracic Society standards for quality assurance. Specialized Care for Asthma
We maintain a very active inpatient service for the care and education of adult patients with asthma. Patients receive specialty care from staff physicians and nursing staff trained in asthma care. We also provide personalized printed asthma information and education to help our patients maintain their health.
Education and Research
Our doctors teach Columbia University resident staff and students. They also conduct research, such as studies of COPD combined with congestive heart failure.
