Fired

up-close of man wiping tableI’m 23 and living at my mom’s house because I can’t hold down a job. I got hired right out of college, but then my anxiety flared up and I constantly thought about being infected with germs. I had to wash my hands every time I touched a door handle or picked up a phone. It got so distracting that I couldn’t get anything done on time, and I had to keep making excuses to my supervisor. One day I missed a crucial meeting because I couldn’t stop washing until I felt clean enough. So they fired me. Now I’m afraid I’ll never get out on my own.
